The requests from the business are questions such as; ?Where is my critical Customer order information?? or ?Where does this column on the Financial report come from??. Throw into the mix, a disparate set of data sources and technologies that contain the metadata to answer the questions. In this presentation, we will look at an approach to providing the data traceability through a ?one step forward, one step back? metadata approach. We will look at a similar approach that has been adopted by the perishable food industry for food safety traceability. We will also look at several of the critical success factors in delivering the information such as ?internet? search capabilities, graphic visualization and multiple layer metadata views.
