As analytical data requirements from business professionals continue to mature, so must our requirements elicitation and modeling practices. This tutorial will take the participant through the five steps required to produce a user-friendly and efficient analytic reporting solution. This tutorial will be completed through both lecture and "hands on" using a real world case study. You will learn:
  • To perform business questions analysis
  • To leverage the Grain Matrix in capturing analytical requirements
  • To identify business needs through the dimensional conceptual data model
  • To identify navigation paths through the dimensional logical data model
  • Why the star schema is the preferred structure for the physical dimensional model
  • Where the relational model fits in dimensional modeling (and it does play an important role!)

Steve Hoberman has trained more than 10,000 people in data modeling since 1992. Steve is known for his entertaining and interactive teaching style (watch out for flying candy!), and organizations around the globe have brought Steve in to teach his Data Modeling Master Class, which is recognized as the most comprehensive data modeling course in the industry.

Steve is the author of nine books on data modeling, including the bestseller "Data Modeling Made Simple." One of Steve’s frequent data modeling consulting assignments is to review data models using his Data Model Scorecard® technique. He is the founder of the Design Challenges group, Conference Chair of the Data Modeling Zone conference, recipient of the 2012 Data Administration Management Association (DAMA) International Professional Achievement Award, and highest rated tutorial presenter at Enterprise Data World 2014 and Enterprise Data World 2015.
